Being able to observe moments like this, that celebrate the joyful connection between student and mentor really make one feel fortunate to know that situations like this are not just something one reads about in books. It was one of those fleeting private moments when someone, or two, makes a conscious and intimate discovery about someone else. Was it Jules or I that commented to Art, in the quiet of a dark hallway, that Matt was like a son to him. It doesn’t really matter who said it, because it was Art’s admission to the truth of the statement that holds its place in our memory. Like Art has said, he has lots of soul mates in life, and surely there is no doubt that young Matt is one of them.
